Rice Livelihood Development Project in Western Province

Phase 1 of the Rice Livelihood Development Package will support more than 2,000 interested growers, including women’s groups and schools in the Kaviananga and Bamu floodplains of the Middle Fly district of Western Province to produce dryland and irrigated rice for local consumption and trials for commercial-scale processing and marketing of four different rice varieties. Addressing the Government of Papua New Guinea’s Medium-Term Development Plan III and the PNG Rice Policy 2015 – 2030 by reducing reliance on imported rice, this project is part of the Fly River Provincial Government’s the WestAgro Master Plan to support ongoing agribusiness opportunities.
